The Middle Age Chronicles

I've just hit middle age. This will no doubt come as a shock to most people who realise how amazingly young, fresh, vivacious, interesting, fascinating, inspirational and attractive I am (not to mention, humble and honest). See Prov 23:7.

It is hard to think of me as anything else but young. Believe me, I know.

Anyway, I've looked at a couple of ways of trying to cope with this middle age thing and have come up with 7 different options.

[1] Growing Up. I certainly don't want to grow up (so that's option one ruled out). I still feel 18, and intend to stay just like that and keep on doing so as long as possible (if I can just find a way to do that without repeating any where near as many mistakes as I've made over the last 17 years, I'll be sorted).

[2] Shave My Head. I've shaved my head numerous times and, whilst I definitely looked and felt really good, my wife didn't exactly think it was my finest moment. Seeing as she is the one with the brains and intuition, I'll defer to her wisdom on this one.

[3] Get a Tattoo. That's a non-runner, there's something in the Bible against it (Lev 19:28). They also look stupid (no offence to all of my old mates who have tattoos and still save up their pocket money to buy new ones).

[4] Buy a Motorbike and Grow a Beard. No offence to the McDowooooooell Brothers and my Ballymoney roots, but I'm too tight (and too skint) to buy a motorbike. I tried to grow a beard once but it simply wasn't 'me', I ended up looking like a cross between John Knox and some sort of wierd Muslim suicide bomber.

[5] Read Dr Paisley's Book Entitled 'Grow Old Along With Me'. Introducing his book, the Big Man says: "Growing old, approaching heaven, getting closer to saying goodbye to this world should be an experience of real joy and not of grief. This book is written so that those of us who are growing old might reap from that experience that last harvest of spiritual joys before entering into the unending joys of our homecoming to the Father's house." The problem though is that this doesn't apply to me because I'm not 'old' and I fully intend to keep on getting younger. If however I do end up getting older, I will dig out this book and have a read of it.

[6] Remember That "40 is the New 30". In that case, I'm still only 25...................RESULT!

[7] Sell Some of My Books. Another excellent idea. Like my friend and mentor, John Calvin, I have decided to sell most of my world famous personal library. I am selling over 2,000 books and 1,000 booklets. So, if you are interested, please get in touch with me via info@mountcarmel.cc and come round to my place. Coincidentally, since I announced to my wife that I'm getting rid of all these books, she has been delirious with joy.

What is God's Will for Me and My Life? What is My Purpose?

Everyone in the world falls into one of two categories - Christian (i.e. 'saved') OR Non-Christian (i.e. 'unsaved').

The Christians (i.e. the saved) are going to Heaven. Whereas, the non-Christians (i.e. the unsaved) are going to Hell.

Literally thousands of books have been written on the subject of what God's will is for our lives and what our purpose for living should be.

God's Will for the Unsaved (i.e. Non-Christians)

The Bible tells us that God's will for the unsaved is that they will get saved so that they can spend eternity with Him in Heaven.

Jesus says, in John 14:1-6: "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

God's Will for the Saved (i.e. Christians)

If you are saved, then God's will for you is that you follow His plan for your life. He desires that you go on with Him. A Christian's life journey with the Lord is called their 'sanctification'.

1 Thessalonians 4:3 says: "For this is the will of God, even your sanctification".

Concerning 'sanctification', C.H. Spurgeon said: "We may speak of believers as those who are sanctified by God the Father, that is to say, they are set apart. They were set apart before they were created, they were legally set apart by the purchase of Christ, they are manifestly and visibly set apart by the effectual calling of the Spirit of grace."

Concerning 'sanctification', A.W. Pink said: "As the term is applied to Christian, it is used to designate three things or three parts of one whole first, the process of setting them apart unto God or constituting them hold (Heb 13:12, 2 Thess 2:13); second, the state or condition of holy separation into which they are brought (1 Cor 1:2, Eph 4:24); third, the personal sanctity or holy living that proceeds from the state (Luk 1:75, 1 Pet 1:15)."

The Fulness of an Abundant Life: Walking Along the King's Highway

God wants to see you enjoy a full and abundant life.

It is all an intentional part of His eternal romance with you personally. This special love-relationship started long before Creation. He knew you and loved you personally from before the foundation of the world.

John 10:10 says: "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

The immortal dreamer and great puritan theologian, John Bunyan, once said: "Since God has mercies to give, and He intends to give them to us, those mercies are not broken pieces or someone else's leftovers....God has bags that were never untied, never opened up, but set aside through a thousand generations for those who hope in His mercy."

Forgiveness of Others: A Key Evidence that You Are Really Saved

Matthew 6:14 says: "For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:"

Luke 6:37 says: "forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:"

Concerning our non-negotiable Christian duty to forgive others, it was once said: "He that cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he himself must pass if he would reach Heaven."

IN 2010 WE SAW OVER 150 PEOPLE SAVED !
TO GOD ALONE BE THE GLORY !

Dear friend in Christ,

I would like to thank you so much indeed for your very kind prayerful and financial support of our missionary work during 2010. This has been one of our best years ever in terms of ministry work. We have seen many people reached with the gospel. We have seen souls saved and firmly rooted in their Christian walk.

We have seen drug addicts reached for Christ. We have seen missionary works and projects that we support flourish. We have also been able to freely distribute literally thousands of evangelistic resources (including booklets, CDs and DVDs).

As 2010 comes to an end, we would like to do two things. Firstly, we would like to send a large donation to our church-planting missionary and evangelist in India who works amongst the slum children and has seen over 150 people won to Christ over the last 12 months. Secondly, we would like to purchase some desperately needed new equipment in order to meet our ministry’s ever-increasing computer and printing needs.

Nurse Wounds or Mend Them? Live Life or Waste It? Life is Too Short to Waste It Griping

These last few months have been some of the greatest and most successful in my life, and I give God all of the praise, honour and glory for that.

The 'good times' are of course great for a number of reasons (not least that they are really enjoyable).

One of the great advantages of 'the good times' is that, if handled properly, they can enable you to look at life with a very positive, God-informed sense of perspective. When you have this perspective, it enables you to look at life as 'an overcomer' who has a 'victor-mentality' - not a 'victim-mentality'.

Some Christians, sadly, never grasp this. They are 'small-minded', 'small-visioned', inhibited and limited - held back by large amounts of minor baggage. They never just 'move on'. They never 'get a grip'. They harbour grudges ad infinitum. They just live in the doldrums for the rest of their life, nursing old wounds and rehearsing old grievances (whether real or imagined). They are twisted, contorted, unhappy and decaying........and it even shows in their appearance.

Let me urge people who are in that position to rise up and refuse to live in the gutter. Lay it down and move on. Don't let it rob you of the life that God has intended for you. God has something much better for you than to live in defeat and (in many cases) self-inflicted misery.

If you are 'offended' over something, let me ask you a question - is it worth staying offended over for the rest of your life and being miserable?

'Offense' with many Christians is so often 'a decision' and carried along by nothing but 'pride'. It is time for you to leave this thing down that is destroying your peace and your life, and just move on.

Please take time and make the effort to forgive. It will set you free to live again. Make the effort to extend an olive-branch, then leave the matter in God's hands and move on.

Life is so short. Don't waste it. How do you want to spend your life? Do you want to spend your life 'nursing wounds' or 'mending wounds'? How you answer this question can determine whether or not you live this short life that you have been given to the full, or if you will simply waste it. The choice is yours. Choose wisely

May the Lord richly bless you. The door of the prison is open and lies before you this day - it is time for you to rise up and walk through it. It is time for you to be free.

Here Are Some Practical Suggestions for a Happy Life:
[1] Forgiveness is a decision. Forgive often and easily.
[2] Develop a thick skin. Take authority over your thought-life.
[3] Don't hold grudges - try to offer an olive branch, then leave it in God's hands and move on.

These three simple suggestions will save you from a mediocre, boring little life that is clogged full of regret, unhappiness and 'offense' (real or imagined). They will also save you from wasting your time and worsening your life with psychologists and psychology. Or maybe your 'bitterness' is too precious to you? The decision is yours. Choose your destiny - destined to reign? or destined to a rut?

Ever since the very beginning, when the vision for this group was first birthed, we have all been very conscious indeed of the Lord's enabling as He has miraculously over-ruled in every circumstance and opened one door after another.

We claim the promises of Revelation 3:8: "I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name."

God's work, with God's blessing upon those who are truly His children, will always come to strength and victory - all glory be to Him, and Him alone.

Renewing Fellowship At London Free Presbyterian Church

In my family's recent ministry trip and holiday to England, Scotland and Wales, we had the immense honour of once again renewing fellowship at our old church - London Free Presbyterian Church in Walthamstow.

My wife and I have both had the honour of speaking there in the past.

It was so wonderful to meet up with our dear friend, brother in Christ and beloved former pastor, Rev Gordon Ferguson. We also really enjoyed meeting up with all of our old friends and supporters in the congregation.

A particularly pleasant surprise was being able to bump into Rev Ken Elliot, minister of Portadown Free Presbyterian Church and one of the lecturers on my course with the Whitefield College of the Bible.

It was truly a blessed time of Heaven on earth.

If anyone is in London on a Sunday, then a visit to London Free Presbyterian Church would be well worth the effort.

Praise God. We serve a God of miracles and He's still the Same!

I wrote this a few days ago...........

God came down tonight in revival power, I saw the 'greater works' with my own eyes, salvation has invaded my household, prayers that have been prayed for over a decade were answered tonight, God has broken into my family in an amazing way. Heaven came down tonight, strongholds were broken and glory filled the sanctuary. Things that I was tempted to believe would never happen have came to pass this day. To God alone be all of the glory.

Whoever you are, let me encourage you to keep on believing God for the breakthrough. We serve the God of the breakthrough. Don't stop believing, don't stop praying, don't stop expecting the impossible - He is real, He knows, He cares and He hears the cry of your heart. God still does miracles and still does the impossible. The God of the Book of Acts is not asleep, He isn't retired and He isn't dead.

Some years ago, when seeking the Lord on a salvation-matter, He gave me a specific word from Him through Scripture. The Lord gave a similar message to my wife on 12th July this year. I'm believing Him as never before for this word to come to pass, I believe that this is beginning to happen. Please stand with me in faith and prayer as I believe God for this blessing to break upon us.

If you aren't saved yet, let me urge you with all of my heart, as someone who genuinely cares about you and loves you, to come to Christ. God really loves you, He sees you, He cares, He is interested in you and He won't throw you away. He longs to bless you, He wants you to go to Heaven. He doesn't want to see anyone in Hell. Please don't let anything hold you back. Please come to Him today. I promise you that you will find that He is real.

Renewing Fellowship Again at Zion Tabernacle in Chester

My wife, son and I recently had a really wonderful ministry trip / short holiday in Scotland, England and Wales. During this time, we spent some great days in Chester where I was a student for many happy years.

Whilst there, we were able to visit our very dear friend in Christ, Pastor David Carson, and the folks at Zion Tabernacle - a mighty evangelical church (see above photo) that serves as a beacon, challenge and encouragement to us all. It was a real time of good preaching, blessing and fellowship.

As well as being the Senior Pastor of Zion Tabernacle, Pastor Carson is also Chairman of the United Protestant Council and President of the Protestant Old Paths Association.

I highly recommend Chester as a excellent place for anyone thinking about taking a holday or a short break. If you are in the area on a Sunday, I highly recommend a visit to Zion Tabernacle.

A Short Bible Study on Ecclesiastes

Solomon, the man whom God used to write the great book of Ecclesiastes, lays out 10 different 'vanities' that we ought to shun.

'Vanity' means 'emptiness'. It is: 'a want of substance to satisfy desire'; 'uncertainty, fruitless desire or endeavour'; 'labour that produces no good'; 'empty pleasure'; 'vain pursuit'; 'idle show'; 'arrogance'; 'empty pride'; 'worthless or futile'; 'excessive pride in, or admiration of one's own appearance or achievements'.

The 10 'vanities' that Solomon warns against in the Book of Ecclesiastes are as follows:

[1] Exclusively selfish living (Ecc 4:7-8).

[2] Empty dedication to pleasure (Ecc 2:1 and Ecc 7:6).

[3] Obsessively coveting what you do not have (Ecc 6:9).

[4] The obsession with becoming famous (Ecc 9:15).

[5] Labour and work that is exclusively focused on self, and not God or others (Ecc 1:3).

[6] Unhealthy ambition (Ecc 4:4).

[7] An obsessive, self-centred drive to prepare for the future without relying on God (Ecc 2:26).

[8] Obsessively hoarding money in a miserly fashion (Ecc 5:10).

[9] Worldly wisdom (Ecc 2:13).

[10] A blind, arrogant optimism that doesn't depend on God (Ecc 11:8).

All of these ten things are 'vain' if you do not have salvation - i.e. a relationship with God through his Son the Lord Jesus Christ. Without God in your life, everything is 'negative' and vain (Job 7:6 and Eph 2:12).

Due to the fact that [a] 'life without God' is vain, [b] 'substance is of more worth than spin', and [c] what's on the inside is more important that what is on the outside (that includes financial wealth) - the book of Ecclesiastes concludes that:

[1] The day of death is (spiritually speaking) greater than the day of birth (Ecc 7:1).

[2] A living dog is better than a dead lion (Ecc 9:4).

Knowledge, Ability & Human Works Are Not Enough - We Need 'Salvation'

Thomas Reade, the great Puritan theologian said:

"All who do not possess spiritual light, are in a state of darkness, however bright and luminous their intellectual light may be. How frequently do we find men of science and deep research completely blinded with respect to the divine science of living to God! And, what is still more painful, how often do we meet with people, in this day of gospel light, who have very clear views of the truth; who are able to speak, not only fluently upon the mysteries of grace, but even to delight and edify those who hear them, and yet, who are themselves destitute of true humility, genuine love to the Saviour, and that spiritual-mindedness which is life and peace. Thus, however illuminated their understandings may be, they are, in the eye of a heart-searching God, in a state of spiritual blindness."

The High Calling of Parenthood

C.H. Spurgeon once said:

As a general rule, young men and women who have the high privilege of Christian parentage and training do not see the love of God in it. They often kick against it and wish they did not have to endure what they regard as a great hardship. That is the way we used to think of it in the days of our ignorance. Christ: Our Only Mediator and Our Only Saviour

There are many who claim that the Roman Catholic Church has changed in its unbiblical veneration of Mary.

Sadly, as we can see from the photo above (where one of Rome's own statues shows Mary on the cross), the opposite is the case.

Roman Catholicism still teaches that Mary (not Christ alone) is a mediator between God and man. The Bible teaches the opposite - in 1st Timothy 2:5, the Word of God tells us that Jesus is the only mediator between God and man.

A Story from Ira Sankey's Life Shows the Amazing, Miraculous Power of the Gospel

Isaiah 9:7 says: "Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this."

More than a century ago, Ira Sankey led the singing for the great meetings of the American evangelist Dwight L. Moody, and on a certain occasion Sankey was asked to sing. He did, singing a then popular song called, The Shepherd Song. After the meeting was over, a man with a rough, weather-beaten face approached Sankey and asked, Did you ever serve in the Union Army?

Yes, replied Sankey, curiously, in the spring of 1860.

Can you remember if you were doing picket duty on a bright, moonlight night in 1860?

Again Sankey replied, Yes, this time very much surprised.

So did I, replied the stranger, but I was in the Confederate Army. He continued, When I saw you standing at you post I said to myself, That fellow will never get away from there alive. I was standing in the shadow completely concealed when the full light of the moon was falling on you. At that instant, just as a moment ago, you raised your eyes to heaven and began to sing. Music, especially songs, has always had a wonderful power over me and I took my finger off the trigger. Let him sing his song to the end, I said to myself. I can shoot him afterward. But the song you sang then was the song you sang just now. I hear the words perfectly. We are thine, do Thou befriend us, Be the guardian of our ways. Those words stirred up many memories in my heart and I began to think of my childhood and my God-fearing mother. She had many, many times sung that same song to me, but she died all too soon, otherwise my life would have been much different.

But when you finished that song, it was impossible for me to take aim at you again. I thought the Lord who was able to save that man from certain death must surely be great and mighty and my arm of its own accord fell limp at my side.

Who would deny that truth is always stranger than fiction? Out of every war and every tragedy come stories which deeply touch the heart, such as the time that American and German soldiers in World War 1 were in their bunkers on Christmas eve, and someone began singing: "O Little Town of Bethlehem, and men who had been shooting at each other only hours before, on both sides of the lines, blended their voices, some in German and others in English singing, O holy Child of Bethlehem! Descend to us, we pray; Cast out our sin and enter in, Be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels The great glad tidings tell; O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Emmanuel."

Strange isnt it, the effect that the gospel has on people, making friends of enemies and brothers of strangers? I, for one, am convinced that the only hope of peace in the world, the only glimmer of light that makes me think there is yet a chance for mankind, is through the Lord Jesus Christ, the Babe born at Bethlehem - the King of kings and Lord of lords.

One of the titles which Isaiah bestowed on him was Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). Whether it is a sniper who is about to pick off a sentry, or an angry wife who wants to blow her husband away with a divorce - anger and bitterness divide and destroy.

You believe in Christ, right? But do you believe in Him enough to let the Prince of Peace bring peace to your troubled heart and life? He is the only one who can cause us to stack arms and surrender to the King of Love. Its time to lay down our weapons and let Him touch our lives with His peace—the real kind that changes our hearts and eradicates our sin. How does this happen? It happens when we get saved. Yes, thats the abiding the truth of Christ.

Is Anything Worth NOT Getting Saved?

William Bates once said: "As the glory of Heaven cannot be fully understood until enjoyed, so the torments of hell cannot be comprehended until felt."

There are many people who give 'reasons' for not becoming a Christian.

Many of them are bitter against God or bitter against Christians. Many of them have a sin that they don't want to give up. Many of them are simply full of pride and don't want to humble themselves before God and admit that they are going to Hell. Many of them don't want to get saved because their partner / children / friends / parents / family are not saved or are prejudiced against being saved. These are only a few examples of the millions of different reasons that people will give for not getting saved. Many people will give other reasons.

Regardless of what reason is given - no reason is good enough to justify you not getting saved.

Just think about your reason - and then ask yourself the questions, 'is it worth going to Hell over?'

The answer is 'no'.

Is the grudge that you are nursing against God or against a Christian worth you not getting saved and going to Hell forever? Just how much is your arrogance, sense of offense and pride worth? Is it worth going to Hell over?

The answer is 'no'.

It is time for you to be real, see the bigger picture and look at your condition in an eternal perspective.

If you end up in Hell, the power your 'excuse' that you used in order to convince yourself not to get saved will evaporate in less than one second as your body is covered in the fire for the first time. For trillions of years to come, forever and ever, you will be alone in Hell with nothing but your torment and your 'excuse' to keep you company.

Ask yourself - is your excuse (whatever it is) really worth that much? Is it really that valuable?

Your excuse will drag you to Hell, but it will never drag you out of it.

It is time for you to lay down your excuse and come to Christ and be saved.

Christopher Love once said: "O the madness of many men in the world, that they will rather lose a God than lose a lust, than leave their whore, then forsake their profit that comes in by unjust gain."

Come to Christ today and be saved. Don't let anything hold you back from making sure that you are not going to Hell.

The Rising Tide of End Times Evil

C.H. Spurgeon once said: "Never did the church so much prosper and so truly thrive as when she was baptized in blood. The ship of the church never sails so gloriously along as when the bloody spray of her martyrs falls on her deck. We must suffer and we must die, if we are ever to conquer this world for Christ".

Whilst none of us particularly relish the accuracy of Spurgeon's comments, when we read church history we cannot but agree with the thrust of them - the church always grows when it is persecuted. The Bible tells us that, in the end times, there will be much persecution raised against evangelical Christians both before and after the rapture.

Consider the following quotations:

"I collect these incidents: preachers arrested and fined; nurses disciplined for offering to pray for patients; registrars disciplined for declining to officiate at homosexual civil partnerships; adoption societies forced to close because they will not place children with same-sex couples. Nice to See That 'Equality' is Alive and Well

Tory Candidate Philip Lardner Suspended for Alleged 'Deeply Offensive' Comments about Homosexuality

Upon hearing of the above story, I sent the following email message to David Cameron and the Scottish Conservative leader.

Ms Goldie / Mr. Cameron,

It is not fair that the politically correct left (many of whom appear to be within the Conservative Party) should be allowed to occupy the centre-ground of politics and then denounce everyone to the right of them as extremists. Mrs. Thatcher had the right idea - she occupied the centre-ground and then moved it to the right, where it stayed until 1997 when Blair came to power and did the same thing (only in reverse).

Many evangelical Christian voters believe that it is wrong for Philip Lardner to be persecuted merely for voicing his disagreement with homosexuality.

His comments about homosexuality merely sought to reflect what the Bible says. He and his views should be tolerated and respected. After all, they were good enough for Shaftesbury, Baroness Young, Lady Thatcher, Churchill and many other great conservative figures of the past.

Perhaps this is an excellent opportunity for those in the Conservative Party who preach political correctness, diversity, equality, tolerance, mutual respect, accommodation, minority rights, etc to practice what they preach and extend the positive benefits of these same virtues to Mr Lardner and those who share his views?

Some of your conservative allies in your own European parliament grouping are understood to hold socially conservative views.

If Mr. Lardner were a Muslim and gave the Islamic view of homosexuality, I don't think too much action would have been taken against him by your party. Why the difference?

There seems to be a cold, cynical determination on the part of many within the Conservative, Labour and Lib Dem leaderships to deprive non-Muslim social conservatives of their rights to politely voice their opinions of matters of sexual ethics without fear of persecution, intolerance and exclusion.

Evangelical Christians are, many believe, beginning to be treated with the kind of contempt that pre-1935 Germany reserved for the Jews. It seems to many that we are the one minority group that it is considered acceptable and normal (and even necessary) to persecute, dismiss, ignore and hate. This is not fair.

Non-Muslim social conservatives are not asking for special treatment. Neither are we asking for you to impose our views on the country. We don't want to persecute anyone or hate anyone. We are merely asking for the space, freedom, tolerance and respect to be ourselves and follow God's Word without fear of harassment from the state. We are good citizens. We, and our Bible, have made (in history) and continue to make an excellent contribution to the UK. We do not cause the state any problems. All we ask in return for our immense contribution to society (past and present) is that the state leave us and our families alone.

If the rest of society wants to abandon the standards of the King James Bible and go their own way, then that's up to them, that's their decision and they're entitled to it. However, we do not wish to abandon God and the King James Bible - and we should have the freedom to do that without being persecuted. We want to be left alone in peace and quiet to go God's way, raise our families and honour His Word.

One day, everyone (including party leaders) will stand before God and His holy laws and give an account to Him for what they did on this earth and how they treated His righteous commandments. This is court mightier than the electorate and even higher than our entire civic establishment. It is also mightier than the EU, New World Order, the UN and all of the international groupings that humanity puts its faith in. May I sincerely urge you to pray to God, read His Word (King James Bible) and consider coming to Christ for salvation.

Living in The End Times

May God be with us and enable us - no matter what the consequences - to stand firm as the early church did, as the Reformation Martyrs did and as our Covenanting forefathers did, and 'Pledge Allegiance to the Lamb'.

The Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again and He's coming soon. One day this will all be over, the Antichrist's New World Order will be defeated. We are standing upon the great threshold of eternity and the Bible tells us that soon "God will wipe away all tears from their eyes". The things that we are beginning to see happening all around us have been prophesied in the Word of God, thus providing us with yet more evidence to display before those still willing to open their eyes and look at it. Let us all, in the words of Scripture, 'prepare to meet our God' and be ready.

William Hunter: the Boy Martyr of Brentwood, Essex

Soon it will be the 455th anniversary of the martyrdom of William Hunter. This is his story...............

In Brentwood (Essex), a large monument stands with the following words on it: "William Hunter. Martyr. Committed to the Flames March 26th 1555. Christian Reader, learn from his example to value the privilege of an open Bible. And be careful to maintain it." William Hunter was a young boy who loved the Word of God. While reading it, he had found Jesus as his Saviour and was gloriously saved. Unfortunately, the agents of Roman Catholicism caught him as he was reading his Bible. They dragged before the judges and demanded that he be put to death as a heretic. At his trial, Master Brown (one of the Roman Catholic persecutors) tried to ask William Hunter difficult questions and trick him into making a fool of himself. Fortunately, William held his ground and answered all of the questions asked of him. In the end, Brown was the one looking humiliated and flustered. With his ego and pride sunk, he became very angry. Brown flew into a rage, took William’s Bible and threw it on the floor. In response to his tirade, William asked Brown either hear him quietly, and allow him to answer for himself, or else send him away.

Upon hearing this, Brown announced that William would be to the Bishop Bonner (Bishop of London). Bonner commanded his men to put William in stocks for two days and nights with only a crust of bread and a cup of water. At the end of the two days, Bonner came to him. The cup of water and the crust of bread were untouched. Bonner demanded that William recant his evangelical faith, but he refused. After threatening to burn him at the stake, Bonner commanded that William be taken to a convict’s prison and be placed in irons. In response, William said: "God strengthen me in His truth.” Despite everything, William still refused to recant his evangelical faith – therefore he was condemned to be burned at the stake. On the night before his execution, he met with his Father and Mother. On the day of his execution, the Sheriff’s son came to William, took him by the right hand and said: “William, be not afraid of these men who are here present, with blows, bills, and weapons prepared to bring you to the place where you shall be burned.” William answered: “I thank God I am not afraid, for I have laid my account what it will cost me already.” At this, the Sheriff's son wept so heavily that he couldn’t continue the conversation any further.

William Hunter went cheerfully to the stake, the Sheriff's servant taking him by one arm, and his brother by the other. While on his way he met his Father, who spoke to his son, weeping and saying: “God be with thee, son William”; and William answered: “God be with you, good father, and be of good comfort; for I hope we shall meet again when we shall be happy.” His Father said: “I hope so, William.” Then William went to the place where the place of execution, but the stake wasn’t ready, so he kneeled down, and publically read from Psalm 51. The Sheriff then came to him and said: “Here is a letter from the Queen. If thou wilt recant, thou shalt live; if not thou shalt be burned.” Answering, William said: “No, I will not recant, God willing.” He was then chained to the stake.

Then William looked out at the crowd that had assembled around the stake and said: “Good People, pray for me; and make speed and despatch me quickly; and pray for me while you see me alive, good people, and I will pray for you likewise.” One of the Roman Catholics shouted out: "'What!, pray for thee? I will pray no more for thee than I would pray for a dog.” William answered: “Now you have that which you sought for; and I pray God, it be not laid to your charge in the last day. I forgive you.” William then publically prayed: “Son of God, shine upon me!” After he said these words, a single thin ray of glorious sunlight immediately broke through a sky that had, until then, been covered in thick, dark clouds. This shaft of sunlight shone right into William’s uplifted face, it then lit up the small area surrounding the stake. The watching crowds were amazed that what they saw. Soon afterwards, William Hunter, the boy martyr of Brentwood, went to be with Christ. Closing his eyes in this world, he opened then in Heaven. How Big Is Your God?

What would have happened if had Moses tried to figure out what was needed to accomplish God’s command? One of the biggest arithmetical miracles in the world was required in the desert.

Moses led the people of Israel into the desert….Now what was he going to do with them? They had to be fed, and feeding 3-1/2 million people required a lot of food. It is estimate that Moses needed 1500 tons of food a day, filling two freight trains (both of them a mile long). Besides, you must remember, they were cooking the food. Just for cooking, this took 4,000 tons of firewood and a few more freight trains, each a mile long and this is only for one day (not to mention for keeping warm because the desert can be cold at night). God did all of this for His people Israel for 40 years while they traveled through the Wilderness.

Let’s not forget about water, shall we? If they only had enough to drink and wash a few dishes, it took 11,000,000 gallons EACH DAY - enough to fill a train of tanker carriages 1800 miles long.

And another thing! They had to get across the red sea in one night. Now if they went on a narrow path, double file, the line would be 800 miles long and require 35 days and nights to complete the crossing. So to get it over in one night there had to be a space in the Red Sea 3 miles wide so that they could walk 5,000 abreast. Think about this; every time they camped at the end of the day, a camp ground 750 square miles was needed.

Do you think that Moses sat down and figured out the logistics of what God told him to do before he set out from Egypt? I doubt it. He had faith that God would take care of everything. Let us have courage, we share the very same God!

Yearly Progress and Encouragement Report

Dear friend of our ministry,

As a new year begins, I would like to say thank you so much indeed for your very kind prayers and support during 2009. It is humbling and deeply appreciated.

2009 has truly been ‘a year of grace’. The Lord has been leading us forward this year as never before. We have seen our ministry expand and reach thousands of people across the world for Jesus Christ. Our hearts have been thrilled to hear of God using our ministry in saving the lost and building up those who are already saved.

In addition to this, we have been able to support over 20 missionary and humanitarian projects on all 6 continents of the world. Part of this has involved helping to build an independent, conservative evangelical church deep in the slums of India. Street children are being helped and ministered to, both physically and spiritually.

We are currently operating 16 ministry outreaches and projects. They deal with evangelism, church planting, training others in ministry and personal witness, doing street evangelism, nursing home ministry, apologetics, education, Bible teaching, taking a stand on the Bible versions, ministering on revival, abortion, drugs, strong relationships, evangelising cult members and reaching children for Christ. Within the next 12 months, we hope to set up 2 more ministry projects – one of which will involve reaching out to parents who have lost children.

Since the start of our ministry, we have tried to – in the words of the great 18th century missionary William Carey – “attempt great things for God and expect great things from God”. To that end, we are looking forward to next year.

We ask you to continue praying for us. Please pray that:
[1] God will be glorified in all that we do and we will follow His leading;
[2] we will walk in the full abundance of God’s favour;
[3] Gail, I and our little son Justyn will be led, blessed, supplied and protected by the Lord at all times;
[4] we will see souls saved and Christians built up;
[5] we will see people built up and released to receive everything that God has for them;
[6] God will help us to be great parents to our little boy;
[7] the ministry will continue to grow, expand and develop beyond our wildest dreams – all according to God’s will.

More than ever before, we NEED your prayers. They mean so much to us as we seek to serve the Lord. Please let us know your prayer requests, don’t forget that we’ll be praying for you too! May the Lord richly bless you.

Special Gospel Concert this Sunday Evening

SPECIAL GOSPEL CONCERT !

At 6.30pm on 20th December 2009, Mount Carmel Revival Ministries will be hosting a special country gospel concert in order to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the 1859 Revival.

The venue will be Ballymoney Orange Hall, High Street (opposite the town hall).

Our singers will include Mr Mervyn Beech of Coleraine, Pastor Laurence Smyth of Bethel Baptist Church in Cloghmills, Alec Johnston of Londonderry and others will sing for us. Our speaker will be Mr. Gordon Gillespie of Ballymena.

Admission will be FREE. Refreshments will be FREE. All resources will be FREE.

Donations will be lifted in order to help our missionary Pastor Lordson Roch build an independent evangelical Christian church deep in rural India. He is currently planting a church and working with orphans.

The End Times Bible Belt...................China?

At this point in history, contemporary church history is proving to be a fascinating study.

In the western world (where a lazy, comfortable church is beginning to experience persecution), we are seeing mass apostasy.

In the eastern world (where the church has been persecuted for years), we are seeing mass revival. China and India are prime examples of this.

In the financially rich western church, we are seeing people (through psychological exploitation, contrived hype and slick marketing) trying to manufacture pretend miracles and 'moves of God'.

In the financially poor eastern church, we are seeing God Himself taking the field, pouring out a move of God (the like of which has never been seen since the Reformation or perhaps even the days of the apostles) and God is doing real biblical miracles like those we read of in the New Testament, the Early Church and Reformation history.

In the first world, the church is weak, compromised and dying. In the third world, the church is strong and vibrant.

In the same way that financial, economic and military power is transferring from the western nations to the eastern nations - so too the acknowledged centres and heartlands of evangelical Christianity and missiology are transitioning from the western church to the eastern church.

North Korea used to be known as 'the Jerusalem of the Orient' prior to the Communist takeover. Today however, despite years of the harshest persecution imagineable, the evangelical church in North Korea is bigger than it ever was before. The underground churches there remain 'the Jerusalem of the Orient'.

The explosion of growth in the evangelical churches of China his been a miracle that the might of the Chinese state and communist party has been powerless to stop. China and the nations of the east are becoming the world's new Bible Belt.

This shows of course that God will never leave Himself without a witness. It also shows that He is not dependent on the western church in order to get the job done.

Disturbing Reports of Christians Persecuted by Muslims

I recently received the following message............

Dear friends,

In a dramatic session before the revolutionary court yesterday (Sunday August 9) in Tehran, Maryam Rustampoor (27) and Marzieh Amirizadeh (30) were told to recant their faith in Christ. Though great pressure was put on them, both women declared that they would not deny their faith. Maryam and Marzieh were originally arrested on March 5, 2009 and have suffered greatly while in prison, suffering ill health, solitary confinement and interrogations for many hours while blindfolded.

On Saturday August 8, Maryam and Marzieh were summoned to appear in court on Sunday August 9 in order to hear a verdict on their case. The chief interrogator had recommended a verdict of ‘apostasy.’ However, when they arrived, no verdict was actually given. Instead, the court session focussed on the deputy prosecutor, Mr Haddad, questioning Maryam and Marzieh about their faith and telling them that they had to recant in both verbal and written form. This made it clear that in the eyes of the court, Maryam and Marzieh’s only crime is that they have converted to Christianity.

Mr. Haddad, asked the two women if they were Christians. “We love Jesus,” they replied. He repeated his question and they said, “Yes, we are Christians.”

Mr. Haddad then said, “You were Muslims and now you have become Christians.”

“We were born in Muslim families, but we were not Muslims,” was their reply.

Mr. Haddad’s questioning continued and he asked them if they regretted becoming Christians, to which they replied, “We have no regrets.”

Then he stated emphatically, “You should renounce your faith verbally and in written form.” They stood firm and replied, “We will not deny our faith.”

During one tense moment in the questioning, Maryam and Marzieh made reference to their belief that God had convicted them through the Holy Spirit. Mr. Haddad told them, “It is impossible for God to speak with humans.”

Marzieh asked him in return, “Are you questioning whether God is Almighty?”

Mr. Haddad then replied, “You are not worthy for God to speak to you.”

Marzieh said, “It is God, and not you, who determines if I am worthy.”

Mr. Haddad told the women to return to prison and think about the options they were given and come back to him when they are ready (to comply). Maryam and Marzieh said, “We have already done our thinking.”

At the end of the session, Mr. Haddad told them that a judge will give them his verdict, though it is not clear who will be the judge in their case now. He also allowed Maryam and Marzieh to have a lawyer represent them in the case for the first time since their arrest.

Both women are back in Evin prison tonight. During their five-month ordeal, both have been unwell and have lost much weight. Marzieh is in pain due to an on-going problem with her spine, as well as an infected tooth and intense headaches. She desperately needs medical attention. Two months ago the prison officials told her the prison had proper medical equipment and that they will attend to her, but so far no proper treatment has been given.

Despite the concentrated effort of officials to pressure them into recanting their faith, Maryam and Marzieh love Jesus and they are determined to stand firm to the very end no matter whatever happens. They have demonstrated their love for Jesus and would offer their lives for Him if they were called to do so. After today’s court session they said, “If we come out of prison we want to do so with honor.”

Maryam and Marzieh’s case is a clear and harsh violation of human rights and religious liberty by Iran’s authorities. They deserve the support of all those who respect human rights and to be released without charges so they can pursue a life of freedom.

The Ancient Landmark

Yesterday we had what Justyn called "the best day ever" as he jumped up and gave me a massive bear hug.

We spent the whole day together as a family and walked round the great city walls of Londonderry. I was able to tell him the real story of the famous siege of Londonderry when God intervened and delivered His people from an intended wholesale slaughter at the hands of popery. God moved the heart of King William III, Prince of Orange, to come to their aid and in August 1689 - the siege was broken by English ships, HMS Mountjoy leading the way and 'breaking the boom' on the Foyle. Justyn loved the stories but most of all he loved climbing on the 30 or so large canons still left scattered around the city walls. He especially liked the big canons.

It is very sad that so many school children (i.e. just about all of them in the state education system) are being kept from knowing the truth about their own history. History is being rewritten and covered up by the sinister pc forces operating within our government, media and state institutions in obedience to their conspirator-masters in the New World Order.

I would urge anyone reading this who gets the opportunity to visit the walls of Londonderry to do so. It really is worth it. Take your children and tell them what God accomplished for His people back in 1689. If you don't tell them, who will?

On our way home, we were able to call in on our very dear friend Pastor Travis Snode at Roe Valley Baptist Church in Limavady and renew fellowship with him, his family and his church. It was a really wonderful time and we urge everyone to continue praying for what the Lord is doing through him in his two independent Baptist churches (one in Limavady and one in Londonderry).

All in all, it was one of those days that you really thank the Lord for. May God give us many more.

Remember What God Has Done for Us

In a day when the past is often discarded, the Bible calls us back to remember how God has blessed us in the past.

Psalm 124 describes a God who has walked with us 'through it all', regardless of what we have been through. He has been there for us all along and always will. Psalm 124 says:

"If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say; If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us: Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us: Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul: Then the proud waters had gone over our soul. Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth. Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped. Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth."

Believing God for the Breakthrough!

Our church service yesterday morning was a real time of blessing as the power of God came down and took over the service. It was one of those occasions when I had one sermon prepared but then God got a hold of me and unleashed Holy Ghost power in the sanctuary and delivered a sermon straight from the throne room.

I preached against unforgiveness, bitterness and gossip and in favour of patience, encouragement and the necessity of building one another up. We can feel God moving in our midst, I am so excited this year that this will be the year of the breakthrough we've been yearning for.

I'm believing God for more salvations, more church members, more workers and more Sunday school children. Best of all, I'm believing for a move of God.

If it is His will, I am also believing God for a building this year. Please pray with us that, if this is God's will, the money will come in, the way ahead will be prepared, our steps will be guided and we will see the wave the God's revival break in upon us and our work come to strength in this once great land that is now so needy.

Dawkins Finally Provides Evidence for Evolution?

In my opinion, the only evidence that Richard Dawkins seems to be able to offer for evolution these days is an ability to behave like (what we in Ulster call) a 'cheeky monkey'.

The question that Dawkins was asked, yet neither he nor his baying hordes of God-haters couldn't / wouldn't answer was - 'what if you are wrong?' I'll help Mr Dawkins out, if he and those who follow him are wrong, then they will [1] find out that there is a God, [2] find out that Jesus is who the Bible said he was, [3] find out that the Bible is true, and [4] they will burn forever in Hell. 'Our' Land: Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?

With a deep sense of honour, I can say that my grandfather served in Sir Edward Carson's UVF, formed in 1912. He went on to see action with the 36th Ulster Division at the Battle of the Somme. He then served with the 'B Specials' (the only real police force that Ulster ever had).

With few exceptions, the RUC (who replaced the B Specials) and the PSNI (who replaced the RUC) were, on the whole, corrupt, soft, liberal and utterly useless in the extreme. Thanks to the abolition of the B Specials, it has been a very long time since the enemies of Ulster felt the smack of firm government.

This above video is set to poetry that Kipling wrote in support of Ulster's struggle against those who would betray it and submerge us in a merciless Roman Catholic republic. Soon it will be the 100th anniversary of the formation of Carson's UVF. I look around today at what is happening in our land and ask myself, was their sacrifice worth it? Did they fight so that their descendants could live in the mess that we are saddled with now? Their sacrifice has been betrayed.

Our land has been destroyed by the New World Order, the European Union, the United Nations, unwanted immigration, our national surrender to Islam, the imposition of political correctness, the complete destruction of Ulster loyalism, moral decay re abortion and homosexuality, the end of law and order and the abolition of any real freedom for Christians and patriots.

Use your vote wisely on 4th June. We owe it to our heroic war dead to send a strong message to the evil socialists, anti-Christians, terrorists, cowards and appeasers who dominate our government.

Voters in Ulster have a choice before them that is both clear and easy.......if only they will have the courage to take it.

English votes matter more to the British government than those of Ulster, Scottish and 'Welsh' people. Therefore English voters have the ideal opportunity to play a particularly important role in conveying a suitably hard slap in the face to our contemptable government.

Now, as never before, the voters of England are in a position to do this by the way in which they cast their vote. They need to show that they are tired of pretend patriots who talk tough but are actually paper tigers. I hope that they will do so. Are they thinking what I'm thinking? I think that, at long last, they are.

Baptist Times Does Hatchet Job on Deborah Drapper

You may remember that I have blogged on Deborah Drapper before, click here for my previous article. The Baptist Union's magazine 'The Baptist Times' has saw fit to weigh in with a complete hatchet job aimed at Deborah and her family (click here for more information).

The Baptist Times article on Deborah Drapper doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

After all, the Baptist Union of Great Britain has ministers in it who deny the deity of Christ and other basic fundamentals of the Christian faith. In light of that, they might be better advised to 'take the plank out of their own eye' rather than bleat on a lot of nonsense about Deborah Drapper (see Matthew 7:3-5).

If most of the ministers and leaders in the Baptist Union had even one half of the courage, knowledge, principle and zeal for God that Deborah has then the Baptist Union wouldn't be the mess that it is today.
How on earth these guys think that they can be taken seriously whilst their very own Baptist Union has ministers in it who do not even believe in the deity of Christ is beyond me. If my church was like that, I would be embarrassed and ashamed. The Baptist Union needs to repent of this apostasy and set their own house in order first.

Remember of course, that this is the same Baptist Union who did such a superb 'hatchet job' on C.H. Spurgeon (despite the fact that they 'garnish his tomb' today - like the Pharisees did to those of the prophets, see Matthew 23:29). If they had any decency at all, they would remove the name of Spurgeon from their college because he would have nothing to do with such an apostate, compromised denomination.
In addition, this is the same Baptist Union who are ecumenical to the hilt and joined at the hip with Roman Catholicism through the heretical World Council of Churches and the Council of Churches in Britain and Ireland.

Matthew 10:36 says that a day would come when the foes of true Bible-believing evangelicals would be those of our own household - in this case, the household of professing Christianity. Could this be a perfect description of the Baptist Union's hatched job on Deborah Drapper?

Could it be that those who are too cowardly to take a stand for Christ themselves simply can't take it when someone else does so? Is it a case of saying - 'if I'm not going to take a stand, then you have to refuse to take one also, that way I'll feel better'.

Back in the good old days when evangelicalism was led by true evangelicals (as opposed to the compromised weaklings of today), Horatius Bonar said: "Fathers and mothers, watch over your children. Keep them from the world. Train them up for the world to come. Draw out their young hearts in admiration of the coming glory, so that earth's vanities shall fade from their eye. Be careful as to what books or magazines they read. Discriminate between the useful and the useless, between the wholesome and the poisonous. Lead them not into temptation. As the world goes on its apostasy from God and its deification of humanity, its snares will become more subtle and its falsehoods more beautiful, especially for the young heart and eye. Straight is the gate and narrow is the way that leadeth unto life. No amount of so-called 'progress' or 'culture' or 'liberality' can make that gate wider or that way broader, either for yourselves or your children."

I think that the position of Bonar is much closer to that of Christ than that of the Baptist Union.

Last night we had a truly wonderful time when a number of us had the honour of visiting Northwest Baptist Church in Londonderry, led by our good friend and brother in Christ Pastor Travis Snode. It was so good to meet up with all of their folks, renew friendships and enjoy fellowship with them again. Please pray for the Lord to grant them abundant success as they serve Him.

We all watched Fireproof: The Movie, one of the very best Christian movies of all time. It was so good to enjoy fellowship with our esteemed friend and brother in Christ Rev. Larry Power, his dear wife Elaine and their wonderful congregation. My little son Justyn and I had a wonderful time and would like to thank them for their great kindness to us.

It has been a real joy of mine to fellowship with those of 'like precious faith' on various occasions. 'Missing Answer' Outreach to Every Home in Ireland

Our dear friends amongst the Independent Baptist community are mounting a massive gospel crusade covering the whole of Ireland in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the 1859 Revival.

Deborah Drapper: A Compelling Case for Christian Education

Deborah Drapper is a very inspiring young lady. She is a home educated evangelical Christian who lives with her family in the English countryside.

The BBC (no friend to evangelical Christianity) recently did a very comprehensive documentary on them. No thanks to the BBC, Deborah and her family came through the documentary with flying colours. They came across very well indeed and the gospel was faithfully presented on air (it is nothing short of a miracle that the BBC didn't edit this out).

Deborah also has her own blog/website, which you can access by clicking here. Needless to say, not everyone is pleased with her for the way in which she took her stand for the Lord (a quick glance at some of the responses she has received from non-Christians and anti-Christians will show that to be the case). I therefore took the liberty of visiting Deborah's website and posted the following message on the comments section of her blog:

Well done Deborah and may the Lord richly bless you. You and your family are an inspiration to everyone (Christian and non-Christian alike) who do not want to see their children grow up to live like animals.

You have taken your stand for the Lord and, as you can no doubt see by the 'less-inspired' nature of some of the responses you are getting, the devil's crowd aren't too happy about it.

We live in a twisted nation where people are happy for abortion to remain legal, but want to see homeschooling banned.

They think that they should have the right to reject God, sin with impudence, ignore the Bible, etc, etc - but still not be called what they are, i.e. 'sinners'. So, they want the right to 'be wrong', but don't want anyone to have the right to 'tell them that they are wrong'.

Their worldview would prefer it much more if Deborah were a drunk, pregnant, teenage mum with a drug problem, a criminal record, a team of 'dedicated social workers', in care, a few abortions under her belt and alienated from her parents - instead of the well adjusted, sensible, hardworking, disciplined, pure Christian girl that she is (and who has a good, close, loving relationship with her parents). She is a credit to her parents and her God.

By the grace of God, home education and independent Christian schools regularly turn out children like Deborah - whereas to a large extent the failed, immoral state education system prides itself on producing the very opposite (this was intimated by recent events at the UN).

I first became convinced of home and independent Christian education when I was doing my first degree at a large teacher training college in England. The anti-evangelical Christian agenda was quite vivid and thinly veiled to say the least. In this 'tolerant utopia' where 'everyone' (except one group) was 'valued', many evangelical Christians were strongly advised to 'keep their heads down'.

One student even remarked to me that Christian parents who bring their children up according to the Word of God were 'worse than pedophiles'. Like many non-Christians, he didn't really have a clue about the Bible or what he was talking about but that didn't stop him. He went on to state that, in his opinion (and most of his friends seemed to agree with him), the state should remove children from evangelical families in order to stop them from being 'brainwashed'.

Of course he didn't have a problem with the state 'brainwashing' children with secularism - "that's completely different", I remember him defensively stating. He was a little short on reasons as to why 'that was different', but I supposed that this atheist just wanted me to accept what he said 'by faith' and not blaspheme the god of atheism by asking for uncomfortable things like 'objective proof'.

After his stirring diatribe, I then asked him if he would like - in public - to be consistent and openly state that he would also like to see the state take children off devout Muslim parents who raised their children according to the Koran. He suddenly went very, very silent. None of his friends said anything either. Strangely, courage seemed to have deserted him. After a while, he finally broke the silence - speaking this time in a very subdued tone of voice - "no...(pause)...no...that's entirely different". I asked him, "why is it entirely different?". He wouldn't answer, the conversation came to an end.

Today he is a teacher in the state education system. Let's just say that I'm glad he isn't teaching my children.

Our nation is currently under divine judgment for it's sin against God. If our people do not REPENT of their SIN and get SAVED, then the wrath of God will continue to fall upon this land.

Pastoral Leadership and Running a Healthy Church

What does a congregation need to be in order to be 'a good congregation'?

Does it need to be big? Does it need to be wealthy? No, no, a thousand times 'no'.

Having a big, wealthy church is certainly very good - but that doesn't make a congregation 'a good congregation'.

A good congregation is a biblical congregation.

There are many hallmarks that distinguish a congregation as 'biblical' - one of them is their love for the pastor and his family.

Love for the pastor can be shown in many different ways, one of the main ones is 'loyalty'.

As a pastor, I would like to thank the Lord for the wonderful congregation that He has blessed me with. They love me, they honour me, they are united behind me, they are generous and they support me 100%. Their unstinting loyalty means more to me than words can say. I don't think that they will ever grasp just how much their loyalty serves as an encouragement to me. A loyal, loving, supportive, encouraging congregation is worth more to a pastor than a big crowd, a big building and a billion pounds.

Alas, this happy situation does not exist in every evangelical church. Sadly, I have no doubt that many pastors whom (humanly speaking) I should be envying (i.e. pastors whose churches may be much bigger and wealthier than mine) will read the above paragraph and find themselves envying me.

I know that many of these pastors, and probably their wives as well, lie awake at night, staring at the ceiling. Why is that? It is simply because they literally cannot get to sleep, and it isn't because they don't work hard enough. They are under severe stress due to the resistance and rebellion raging in their churches. Let me ask you a question - are you, by your conduct, giving your pastor a sleepless night?

As many pastors go about their daily duties, a perpetual, relentless tension rages on continually in the back of their mind. They have no peace. You see, their most outwardly obvious enemy is not on the outside - their enemies are quite literally 'through the door' and have taken over the church. Such a pastor has to fight Satan AND the rebellious 5th column inside his church (I have often wondered exactly how direct this link is in some cases). He has one vision for the church, his detractors have another. Two seperate agendas are being worked towards and there is a definite tension between what God wants him to do and what his church-detractors are pushing him into doing. He can handle fighting the forces of Satan, but he feels helpless before the second front that has been opened up amongst the nay-sayers in his own congregation.

Many times, the more creative and cruel agitators amongst the pastor's cowardly, disloyal enemies will open up a third front against him - i.e. his wife and children. That's right, they will get at him through his family. They or their wives will hurt his wife or children and make their lives miserable in some way. This underhand technique ensures that the pressure on the pastor is maximised. You see, the one place where the pastor is not and should never be under attack - i.e. his own home - is violated. It is not allowed to escape the onslaught. They have constucted a network of intimidation so intricate and calculated that the pastor and his family literally cannot escape - not even in the sanctity of their own home. Sometimes a pastor's marriage will break up due to this (that is if he doesn't have the guts to stand up against the rebellionistas and take his family's side).

There are pastors in this country who are ordered around like little puppets by their elders and deacons. They are even TOLD what to preach in their own pulpit, how long their sermons should last AND they are pointedly told which version of the Bible to use (if the pastor happens to prefer the AV).

I've heard of one evangelical pastor, not too far away from me, who was informed by the elite in his church that he wasn't allowed to talk about Hell anymore in the pulpit. Unfortunately he crumbled and did as he was told like a good little boy. I also know of an evangelical church who tried to order their minister to involve himself in ecumenical activity with the local Roman Catholic priest (despite the fact that they knew he vehmently disagreed with it). To his credit however, this was the straw that broke the camel's back and he actually stood his ground, upon which his elders had him de facto removed. He lost his pastorate, but thank God he stood for the truth and will therefore have a clear conscience when he stands before the Lord.

As the reader may have gathered by now, this is a matter that lies very close to my heart. One reason for this was the fact that, in my early days in the ministry (when I was still very naive and 'oh so eager to please'), I almost ended up being trapped in a nightmare pastorate just like this. Thanks be to God however, the Lord mysteriously intervened and delivered me. I didn't understand what was happening at the time, but looking back now I know that it was nothing less than the merciful hand of God. The same God who loves us enough to open doors, loves us enough to close a few of them as well.

If not dealt with biblically, decisively and head on - rebellious assistant pastors, rebellious elders, rebellious trustees, rebellious deacons, rebellious extended families within the church who think that they own it, rebellious wealthy people who treat the pastor like 'their employee', rebellious church members and (in some cases) rebellious hangers-on (who are not even members of the church) - can break a pastor, his health, his wife, his children and his ministry. I have even heard stories of ministers who have been driven to nervous breakdowns at the hands of seditious elders.

I heard of one pastor who went off on holiday with his wife and children. When they came back, they found out that the elders and deacons had called a meeting, removed him from the pastorate, emptied the manse of every possession the pastor's family had (he mistakenly trusted them enough to give them a spare key), changed the locks on the manse doors and rudely informed him that he was no longer wanted. One pastor's daughter abandoned the Christian faith - not because she was angry at God, but because she had watched her father hounded into an early grave by the stress he was put under by deacons and elders.

C.H. Spurgeon was once quoted as saying - "resist the devil and he will flee from you, but resist the deacons and they will fly at you".

Many times, the situation existing inside a church can either make a pastor or break him.

A pastor who is intimidated and not able to lead his church or preach the word of God with full liberty, totally free and unfettered, is spiritually neutered - like a lion who has been castrated, put in a cage and lost his roar. He is like a sword straining for the clash of battle, but never able to be drawn from the sheath. Such a pastor is trying to serve God with one hand and both legs tied behind his back.

I would guess that any pastor reading this brief message will agree with me when I say that there are no words to describe the kind of blessing that congregational love and loyalty is to the pastor whom God has called to lead that church. There is no limit to what a pastor (or a church!) can accomplish when he has his people firmly behind him.

To all of you out there who read this blog but are members of other congregations, let me urge you to treat your pastor (and his family) well. Be a blessing to them. He holds the most important position in the entire world - greater than King, greater than President, greater than Prime Minister, greater than General, greater than Supreme Commander, greater than the CEO of the greatest corporation on the face of the earth. Why is that? It is because, by divine power, he handles the Bible - the very oracles of God - a book that isn't just perfect, it is as holy as God Himself. It isn't just divinely inspired, plenary inspired, verbally inspired, infallible, inerrant, preserved, perfect, sufficient and authoritative - it is also a miraculous, holy, living, supernatural book. The book itself is supernatural, it is drenched in the triune Godhead. Under a holy God and by the enabling of Heaven, the pastor holds in his hands and declares with his lips the sacred mantle of the work of the Most High God upon the earth. Pastorship is the highest possible calling known to man. Modeled on Jesus Christ, he is a shepherd to the people of God under the leading of God. He [1] leads them, [2] protects them, [3] feeds them, [4] guides them, [5] serves them and if necessary is prepared to sacrifice and lay down his life for them.

A great man of God once told me, when I was just starting out in the ministry - "never stoop to be a king if God has called you to be a servant".

In the light of this, it is no surprise to note that Dr. Martin Lloyd-Jones, the great puritan preacher of Westminster Chapel, said: "The men who have accomplished most in this world have always been theologically-minded." (see 'The Unsearchable Riches of Christ', page 222).

There is no limit to the amount of biblical blessing and honour that you can, and should, heap upon your pastor. As well as being a servant to the church, his wife if also the 'first lady' of the church. She is his helpmeet, she encourages him when he is tempted to give up, she pushes him on to higher levels of greatness when he is tempted to settle for less, she holds him together in the unseen moments when he needs someone to 'pastor him'. In love, she reaches out with him as he ministers to his people. She frequently gives up her time with him so that he can spend it serving the people in the congregation. Humanly speaking, she is his rock. You could almost say that she is his visible co-pastor in the same way that the Holy Spirit is his invisible co-pastor. She deserves to be honoured and blessed by the people of the church. In blessing her, you are blessing her husband, the pastor, and by blessing him you are blessing God.

As well as being a servant of the church, the pastor is also its leader - and 'leaders' are supposed to 'lead', not be resisted and held back.

If you are guilty of resisting the pastor or impeding him in an unbiblical way, then you need to repent to God and your pastor and his family, get with the programme and fall in line. If you are in a leadership position and find yourself incapable of this, then you need to resign because you are not fit to hold the office and - if the pastor considers it necessary - leave your congregation and go to another church where you can start afresh. Sometimes this needs to happen.

Some time ago in England, I remember meeting a highly obnoxious man who was exceptionally wealthy. I know that sometimes Christians can be rude, but this man really took it to a whole new level. He really took the biscuit. He came across to me as pure poison, a malicious, nasty creature in every way. To matters worse, he loved himself and I actually overheard him admitting to someone that he knew how he came across, but didn't care about it because he could get away with it. He was probably the most unlikeable person I've ever come across in my whole life. As is ofcourse the case with many men like him, he had a wonderful wife and two utterly resplendent daughters (one of life's great mysteries, eh?). He claimed to be saved, but quite frankly I doubt it. Even more worrying however, he was also a senior elder in an evangelical church - and he repeatedly boasted that he saw to it that his power within that role was flexed to its maximum potential. One important role for church members and those who hold leadership positions in the church is that they should be the pastor's strong right arm. I therefore fail to understand why this man was an elder. Maybe it was his enormous wealth and family connections within the upper eschalons of the congregation that opened the door? I think that it was. Lets take a massive leap of faith and assume that this man was actually saved in the first place - I wouldn't have even accepted him into membership of my church, never mind make him an elder....and I wouldn't care who he knew, what he said, where he went or how much money he flashed around.

Britain and Ireland is choked through with church membership and office holders who, like this man, don't meet the criteria. If anything, they are part of the problem, not part of the solution. They are holding back the work of God and they need to repent and change. Those office holders who refuse to repent and change should resign, and those who refuse to resign should be deposed. Pastors need to take back control of their churches again.

Strong pastors are frequently used by God to raise up strong churches. One way in which you can help make your pastor stronger is by being loyal and loving to him and his family.

Encouage your pastor. Make him the happiest pastor in the world by giving him and his wife the greatest present ever - a loyal, generous, energetic, supportive congregation who are zealous for God and the leader whom He has chosen to give them. Never forget that the pastor is God's man and you are God's people.

Brave young girl in Gaza blames Hamas, not Israel, for her sister's death.

For many years, Islamic militants have fired thousands of rockets into Israel whilst Israel showed restraint. Where was the international outcry? It didn't exist. Once Israel decided to defend itself however, suddenly the bleeding heart liberals and Islamic militants of the world joined forces to launch the mother of all outcries.

Hamas have recently indescriminately fired over 3,000 rockets at Jewish civilians, therefore Israel are now defending themselves. We must pray for Israel, especially at this difficult time. Please pray that they will be victorious in this their latest war of self-defence and national survival - not for the first time against the forces of Islamic aggression and international anti-semitism backed up by the United Nations.

Not for the first time, it has come to light that Hamas terrorists are using UN property in order to facilitate their anti-semitic attacks upon the Jewish people. Click here to see just how 'independent' and 'objective' the UN are in this regard. One wonders how many in the incredibly biased, anti-Israel media will take up this story. I expect that it will no doubt be cynically ignored.

One could say that a female Muslim protestor recently committed the rare fauxpas of letting her mask slip in public when she called for Jews to 'go back to the oven' (a reference to the holocaust), click here for more details. It could be said that this comment left 'moderate' Muslims with red faces all round.

George Galloway, the disgusting left wing MP who has campaigned relentlessly against the state of Israel, is said to have been involved in a scuffle with police at a pro-Palestinian rally.

We now hear that devotees of 'the religion of peace' are so enraged by Israel having the guts to defend itself that an Islamist website is compiling a list of British Jews to target.

Attacks on British Jews have now increased due to the outside world's unjustified outrage over Israel's decision to defend itself. How many more dead Jews will it take before people just leave them alone and let them live in peace. How much Jewish blood needs to be spilled before the outside world finally concedes that enough is enough.

The fatuous Liberal Democrat leader was on typical appeasement form when he rose in the House of Commons to urge the UK Prime Minister to condemn Israel. Fortunately however, his party, which drifts further and further to the left of Labour every day, will never actually gain power - which is something that every Christian should get down on their knees and thank God for.

‘’Europe must open its eyes,’’ Israeli President Shimon Peres rightly remarked to an interferring EU ministerial delegation who demanded a truce. He went on to say: "We are not in the business of public relations or improving our image. We are fighting against terror and we have every right to defend our citizens.’’

The situation in Gaza is really very simple -

[1] If Hamas stop attacking Israel, then Israel will stop defending itself.

[2] Hamas will continue attacking Israel until they are dead or Israel is dead. They don't even recognise the right of Israel to exist. Therefore it is impossible to expect Israel to reach an accomodation with people like this, and neither should they.

[3] If Hamas don't want civilian casualties, then why are they firing at Jewish civilians in Israel? Why is it wrong for Palestinian civilians to die, but right for Jewish civilians to die? If they regard themselves to be an ethical organisation, why do Hamas act like the death of a Palestinian civilian is of more worth than the death of a Jewish civilian?

[4] If Hamas are going to cynically, knowingly and deliberately use the Muslim civilians of Gaza as a 'human shield' behind which they can fire rockets at Jewish civilians, then it is Hamas' own fault if some of the the people who make up their 'human shield' die as a result of the military confrontation that they themselves have initiated.

If Hamas cared about civilian casualties then they wouldn't intentionally build their military positions in houses, playgrounds, hospitals, schools, etc and then use those very positions to fire rockets at civilians in Israel in the first place. Hamas do this, KNOWING very well that civilian casualties will arise because that is what they WANT. Yes, that's right, despite all of the hysterics you have seen on your TV screen - they WANT civilian casualties. They intentionally locate their military positions in the very places that they do in order to ensure this very result - civilian death. The blood-hungry Muslim preachers who pump out their relentless sermons of death and hate, and the brainwashed masses who so slavishly follow them, will gladly sacrifice Muslim children (including their own) in order to destroy Israel and attain their evil goals. Why is that? They do it because dead children make good propaganda-fodder for gullable westerners who have an opinion on the Middle East but don't have a clue what they're talking about. When it comes to the Middle East, many liberal and left wing westerners have big mouths, but small brains. In addition, TV pictures of dead Muslim children are a great tool for generating ever higher levels of pressure and support for the 'Palestinian cause' from millions of Muslims around the world.

If there are civilian casualties in Gaza, then 100% of the blame must rest with Hamas and Hamas alone. Israel didn't want this war. Israel didn't start it either. Israel, against my wishes, pulled out of Gaza years ago. But none of that was good enough for Hamas, was it? For years, they have been hellbent on provoking Israel and starting a confrontation........and now they've finally got it. They got their war! the war they've always wanted! So what are they doing now? Belly-aching, whinging about it and acting like they are a victimised minority when they are nothing of the sort. It is nothing less than dispicable doublespeak and hypocrisy.

Hamas are responsible for dead Palestinian children in the same way that Hitler was responsible for dead German children during the Second World War.

Hamas are responsible for dead Palestinian children in the same way that the Taliban are responsible for dead Afghan children during the Allied invasion of Afghanistan.

Hamas are responsible for dead Palestinian children in the same way that Sadan Hussein was responsible for dead Iraqi children during the Second Gulf War.

Hamas are responsible for dead Palestinian children in the same way that terrorists are responsible for dead British children in Northern Ireland during the Troubles.

The message to Hamas and their supporters is simple - if you don't want casualties, don't start a war. In addition - if you don't want civilian casualties, don't use civilians as a human shield.
What kind of 'country' fires 3,000 rockets at another country's civilians - then starts complaining when the other country defends itself?
Every time a war takes place - innocent casualties will arise on both sides. This latest war, initiated (lets not forget) by Hamas, will be no different.

So God bless Israel, defend her and give her victory!

Not everyone has been misled, thankfully thousands of people around the world are seeing through the propaganda.

Most of all however, let us pray for the salvation of the Jewish and Muslim people. Remember that Jesus loves them all and died for all of them. Only when they get saved can the entire Middle East be at peace. “Hitherto hath the Lord helped us” 1 Samuel 7:12

The Prince of Preachers, CH Spurgeon, commenting on the above verse:

"The word “hitherto” seems like a hand pointing in the direction of the past. Twenty years or seventy, and yet, “hitherto the Lord hath helped!” Through poverty, through wealth, through sickness, through health, at home, abroad, on the land, on the sea, in honor, in dishonor, in perplexity, in joy, in trial, in triumph, in prayer, in temptation, “hitherto hath the Lord helped us!” We delight to look down a long avenue of trees. It is delightful to gaze from end to end of the long vista, a sort of verdant temple, with its branching pillars and its arches of leaves; even so look down the long aisles of your years, at the green boughs of mercy overhead, and the strong pillars of lovingkindness and faithfulness which bear up your joys. Are there no birds in yonder branches singing? Surely there must be many, and they all sing of mercy received “hitherto.” But the word also points forward. For when a man gets up to a certain mark and writes “hitherto,” he is not yet at the end, there is still a distance to be traversed. More trials, more joys; more temptations, more triumphs; more prayers, more answers; more toils, more strength; more fights, more victories; and then come sickness, old age, disease, death. Is it over now? No! there is more yet-awakening in Jesus’ likeness, thrones, harps, songs, psalms, white raiment, the face of Jesus, the society of saints, the glory of God, the fulness of eternity, the infinity of bliss. O be of good courage, believer, and with grateful confidence raise thy “Ebenezer,” for — He who hath helped thee hitherto will help thee all thy journey through."

Remembering and Honouring Them

If there is one time of the year when I well up and fight to hold back the tears, it is Remembrance Sunday. This day is very personal to me.

As far as I can trace - all the way back through the generations - my ancestors on both sides of my family tree have been military men who have served the Crown and the cause of freedom. They weren't all Christians, but they were selfless and courageous. By God's grace, they were part of the great sacrifice that made our nation and great and kept it free. I am proud of them and honoured to be their descendant.

My Great, Great Grandfather was one of the 27th Lancers who took part in the infamous 'Charge of the Light Brigade' during the Crimean War. Their heroic deeds were of course immortalised in the poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson:

Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
"Forward, the Light Brigade!
"Charge for the guns!" he said:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

"Forward, the Light Brigade!"
Was there a man dismay'd?
Not tho' the soldier knew
Someone had blunder'd:
Their's not to make reply,
Their's not to reason why,
Their's but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
Rode the six hundred.

Flash'd all their sabres bare,
Flash'd as they turn'd in air,
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army, while
All the world wonder'd:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right thro' the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reel'd from the sabre stroke
Shatter'd and sunder'd.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro' the jaws of Death
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,

When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wondered.
Honor the charge they made,
Honor the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred.

The last verse is my favourite. I once heard it read with gusto and power whilst 'Land of Hope and Glory' played in the background.

My grandfather was one of Carson's men who comprised the 36th Ulster Division. He saw action at the Battle of the Somme on 1st July 1916 when the Ulstermen stood shoulder-to-shoulder, fixed bayonets, charged from their trenches (most of them in full Orange regalia), set upon the German lines and became the one British success story of the day.

Describing the charge, Captain Wilfrid Spender of the Ulster Division's HQ staff, was quoted in the press as saying.... "I am not an Ulsterman but yesterday, the 1st. July, as I followed their amazing attack, I felt that I would rather be an Ulsterman than anything else in the world".

My grandfather went on to serve in the Ulster Special Constabulary ('The B Specials'). Historian R.B. McDowell recalls childhood memories of these years in a recent book entitled, Crisis and Decline: "... one bright evening I stood at a window, looking out on an eerily deserted and silent [Belfast] street - curfew was in force. Suddenly I heard footsteps and saw a patrol of B Specials, decent, middle-aged men with police caps and armlets, carrying themselves with solemn determination. I felt reassured".

The B Specials were effective - for that reason they were disbanded by 'lesser men', cowards and traitors who didn't want to see the IRA defeated. The B Specials were the last proper police force Northern Ireland ever had. Many of them went on to distinguish themselves within the UDR (disbanded for the same reason). The demise of the B Specials signaled the end of real policing in Northern Ireland.

It makes my stomach turn to think of what has been done to our nation and the legacy of those who defended it. One example of this is the way in which poppies are banned by the pc crowd, who then go on to place easter lilies (comomerating the IRA's 1916 uprising) in the same category as poppies.

Roughly a year ago I met someone (an evangelical Christian believe it or not) who whinged on about commemorating Remembrance Day and wearing poppies in church because it might 'offend some sections of the community'. The problem here of course is that the mere sight of service men and women who are still alive and not in a body bag 'offends some sections of the community' - as was made evident when the Royal Irish Regiment marched through Belfast recently. Some may wish to crumble before these 'sections of the community', but by God's grace I am determined that I will not. Our church will continue to mark Remembrance Sunday, regardless of how much that upsets the chattering classes and their friends in the 'politically correct' mob. They shall not grow old,
As we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn,
And at the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
We will remember them.

Whilst it is right that we should all take pride in our armed forces today (past and present) for the sacrifices they made so that we would be constitutionally free - more than ever before, we need to remember that the Lord Jesus Christ made an even greater sacrifice ever so that we could be spiritually free.

C.H. Spurgeon, the great Christian champion of the 1800s, says the following about the importance of prayer and its place in the family:

Leviticus 6:13 says: "The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out."

Keep the altar of private prayer burning. This is the very life of all piety. The sanctuary and family altars borrow their fires here, therefore let this burn well. Secret devotion is the very essence, evidence, and barometer, of vital and experimental religion.

Let your closet seasons be, if possible, regular, frequent, and undisturbed. Effectual prayer availeth much.

Have you nothing to pray for? Let us suggest the Church, the ministry, your own soul, your children, your relations, your neighbours, your country, and the cause of God and truth throughout the world. Let us examine ourselves on this important matter. Do we engage with lukewarmness in private devotion? Is the fire of devotion burning dimly in our hearts? Do the chariot wheels drag heavily? If so, let us be alarmed at this sign of decay. Let us go with weeping, and ask for the Spirit of grace and of supplications. Let us set apart special seasons for extraordinary prayer. For if this fire should be smothered beneath the ashes of a worldly conformity, it will dim the fire on the family altar, and lessen our influence both in the Church and in the world.

The text will also apply to the altar of the heart. This is a golden altar indeed. God loves to see the hearts of his people glowing towards himself. Let us give to God our hearts, all blazing with love, and seek his grace, that the fire may never be quenched; for it will not burn if the Lord does not keep it burning. Many foes will attempt to extinguish it; but if the unseen hand behind the wall pour thereon the sacred oil, it will blaze higher and higher. Let us use texts of Scripture as fuel for our heart's fire, they are live coals; let us attend sermons, but above all, let us be much alone with Jesus.

5 Children Saved - to God be all the praise, honour and glory

The Lord has truly blessed us in a mighty way.

We didn't feel like going round the doors this Sunday afternoon, but we went ahead and did so anyway - trusting God to go with us and bring in the harvest.

We have been praying for many children to come to the church and for more people to be saved........then, on Sunday, whilst going door-to-door and conducting outreach on one of our local estates, my wife and I had the joy of witnessing to some children.

As we listened and spoke with them, we could sense that the Lord had clearly been working upon their hearts and minds.

In addition, they had been to a number of evangelical Sunday schools and children's missions where Christians had taken the time and love to witness to them and share the truth about Jesus Christ.

We thank God for the faithfulness of these Christians whom we may never meet. We don't know who they were and they'll probably never know that these precious children, whom they took the time and care to witness to, got saved. They may never know just how much the Lord was using them, but He did - and what a mighty way He used them! He used them to bring about the greatest change possible in these children's lives - from traveling along the road to Hell to journeying along the road to Heaven. Wherever they go in life and regardless of what church the Lord leads them to, they are now His children and remain so forever.

In the open air, 4 of them indicated a desire to be saved and we're led to the Lord Jesus Christ by myself. Another girl was led to the Lord by my wife at the Sunday evening service.

My little boy Justyn is just thrilled to have all of these new children at Sunday School to play with - they were an answer to his prayers also.

Praise God, these are the happiest days of my life. This is what it is all about. At times like this, you realise more than ever that it is worth it all.

We pray that God will continue to pour out His abundant blessings upon our church, and every other Bible-believing evangelical church, in the months and years ahead.
